The perfect equation for the munchies!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Can you think of any event of our &#8220;happy hour&#8221; society that does not really have any nighttime activity that doesn&#8217;t include food or drink? Depending on your food choices; this is the LAST thing your body needs. It can cause heartburn, sleeplessness, be a danger to asthmatics, and encourage insomnia.<\/p>\n<p>My first recommendation is to AVOID eating 3 hours before bedtime with a few handy suggestions:<br \/>\n<strong>1. Make a ritual:<\/strong>\u00a0A nightly pattern can be your best ally<br \/>\n<strong>2. Stretching:<\/strong>\u00a0the last thing you feel like doing when you stretch is eating<br \/>\n<strong>3. Herbal Tea!:<\/strong>\u00a0Learn to love it<\/p>\n<p>Avoiding bedtime eating gives you the best chance of not putting yourself at risk for over-indulging or making poor choices.<br \/>\nHowever, if you can&#8217;t go to sleep because you are hungry<br \/>\nthen go for SMART snacking&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>No&#8217;s<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>1. NO fatty foods!!! Period!:<\/strong>\u00a0Fat stimulates the production of acid in the stomach, which can spill up into your esophagus, causing heartburn.<br \/>\n<strong>2. Wine:<\/strong>\u00a0it&#8217;s pure sugar and your body metabolizes it quickly which means your going to be waking up all night<br \/>\n<strong>3. Chocolate:<\/strong>\u00a0calories + caffine&#8230; not so much for sleeping<br \/>\n<strong>4. Soda:<\/strong>\u00a0Right up there with chocolate except worse! Your dentists worst nightmare as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>GOOD ideas:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>1. Cherries<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; one of the few natural foods that contain melatonin which helps you sleep<br \/>\n<strong>2. A small bowl of good complex carb cereal<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: 'lucida grande', lucida, verdana, sans-serif;\">\u00a0&#8211; my personal favorites are Kashi and Shredded wheat<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>3. Bananas:<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: 'lucida grande', lucida, verdana, sans-serif;\">\u00a0Contains natural muscle relaxants\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>4. Turkey:<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: 'lucida grande', lucida, verdana, sans-serif;\">\u00a0This is the ONLY\u00a0protein I will recommend others will keep you up- It contains tryptophan &#8211; yes that&#8217;s why you pass out after thanksgiving<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>5.
